ADULTING IRL
They Don't Know... Who We Be
Our origin story is one of hope, resilience, and fierce determination birthed from a desperate call to action needed to reduce the alarming and rising rates of suicide behaviors in BIPOC and LGBTQ2S+ students in the Portland Public Schools District. Armed with Des' visionary peer support prowess, we rolled out a suite of life-affirming gems, the iconic #IRLSeries.
โ
More than just a program; it’s a lifeline for K-12 students and families, community members, and the organizations that serve them. We’re here to:
-
Give youth and young adults the tools they need to live their best life unapologetically.
-
Lift up and embolden new youth peer support specialists to become cultural change agents.
-
Challenge the stigma of suicide in Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities.
Adulting IRL’s groundbreaking #IRLSeries is rooted in authenticity and steeped in cultural richness. We are relentless in our mission to ensure access to knowledge, resources, and holistic support with programs like:
-
#NoApologies: Suicide Support Group for Middle and High School aged young adults
-
#YouGoodFam: First aid Suicide Intervention Training for Middle and High School aged young adults
-
#ISeeYou: Culturally Specific Youth Peer Support Specialist Certification Training
-
#Amplify&Thrive: Culturally Specific Peer Supervision Training
